The story of Bagind began to be written a few years before the brand itself was created. In 2015, the founder of Bagind, Lukáš Matějček, was in India fulfilling his big travel dream. While wandering the tangled aisles of the golden city of Jaisalmer, he came across a leather goods stall. But the backpack he wanted to get there was not for sale. But the charismatic shopkeeper Dinesh, who is now called no one else but Dennis, offered to sew him one just like that right away.
Lukáš agreed and spent several hours in Dennis' workshop, carefully observing the perfect handiwork from the first to the last stitch. After returning to the Czech Republic, he almost never took the backpack off his back and even after two years of wearing it, he still heard nothing but praise for it. And so the idea of bringing quality leather products from India to the Czech market was born. Among old memories from his travels, Lukáš found Dennis's dusty business card and sent him several designs of backpacks he had drawn himself. Along with the designs he also sent all his savings and had no choice but to wait and trust. But a few months later, he was sitting in his Prague studio apartment with a box full of original leather goods that had travelled more than 6,000 km to reach him. The feeling is hard to describe.
In 2017, the Bagind brand was created, offering honest goatskin products under the slogan "Indians gave them life, Czechs breathed their soul". The leather pieces quickly found their customers on the Czech market. New cuts and colours were added to the portfolio. Currently, production in India is carried out in family houses, which are united by Dennis and employ more than 100 people. The brand has thrived and continued to grow. Then in 2020, it began to realise its wish to offer products to its Slovakian neighbours as well, which indeed happened a year later.
The year 2021 was another turning point for Bagind. Lukáš met Linderman in Colombia on his journey through South America. The then twenty-nine-year-old backpack manufacturer caught Lukáš's eye because of the determination and passion that united them. Thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign, we were able to lease and set up a new production facility in Colombia under Linderman's direction. In the mountain town of Villa de Leyva, we have 15 skilled manufacturers producing for us. New production in a new country brought with it new materials (canvas and cowhide leather) and a new direction.
>Thanks to Colombia, we realized that we wanted to connect skilled people with a love of honest craftsmanship from all over the world. We want to explore new opportunities, cultures and materials. We believe the world has so much more to offer us and we now follow the motto "Lifetime Adventure" because that is what we want Bagind to be for you. With the new motto and new direction has come a change of logo, which now houses a compass arrow to represent our openness to the world.
In 2022, another Indian manufacturer, this time the young and ambitious Deepesh, joined Bagind on board. Although he produces, like our first Indian manufacturer Dennis, from goatskin, his products differ in workmanship and design. They are more urban and multifunctional.
The year 2023 was a turning point for us. At the beginning of the summer, we surpassed a milestone that no one would have imagined 6 years ago. We celebrated the 100,000th sold product. This number is already really high and obliges us to strive to get better and better every day with each new product sold.
Even in 2024, the speeding train called Bagind isn't stopping! We are still working hard to find new producers from around the world, preparing many new products and new colours for our customers that they have never seen before.
